Fight like a king with these SNK fighting sticks

Published by admin under Playstattion News

You’ll need to wield a sturdy fighting stick if you ever plan on becoming a champ in the fighting genre. Everyone knows that; Capcom knows it, Namco Bandai knows it, and SNK Playmore knows it, too, which is why the latter will be releasing two, brand-new controllers alongside King of Fighters XII in July. The first is a King of Fighters XII USB Stick featuring character artwork of series favorites Iori, Athena and others plastered on the topside. The second fighting pad is the Neo Geo Stick 2, a throwback to the classic controller, which will finally be available for PS3 (It’s already out for Wii). They retail for ¥6,279 ($65) and ¥5,229 ($54), respectively.

Now, why are those prices in Japanese currency? Well, unlike the game itself, these sticks haven’t been given a worldwide release date. They hit Japanese stores on July 16th and hopefully we’ll get them in time for launch date, too.

Logitech releases another gorgeous (fake) guitar

Published by admin under Playstattion News

We’re not positive, but we think we’re over high-end fake guitars. Check out this Logitech Wireless Guitar Controller for PS3 and PS2 that’s going to arrive in the U.S. this month. That’s lovely. The company kept the metal tuning pegs and rosewood fingerboard from the last model with “a few minor construction updates.” No complaints here, not even with the $199.99 price tag, which is pricey, but not outrageous.

No, even with a gorgeous guitar like this we find ourselves curiously … unmoved. It’s puzzling, but it could be because our den already looks like the rehearsal space for a dwarf version of the Polyphonic Spree. It’s hard to say.

SCEE promises changes to future Home content delivery

Published by admin under Playstattion News

A Sony Europe Home community manager has posted some new information on the official SCEE forums, laying out some changes to how Home content is going to be delivered in the future. Saying what everyone else is thinking, TedTheDog states that “SCEE Home is behind the other regions in the number of Spaces we have to offer” and that the abundance of clothing and furniture in the shopping centre doesn’t quite help if there’s nothing to actually do in the service.

As a result, the SCEE Home team will begin to focus on developing spaces instead of cultivating shopping centre relationships. This involves getting “up to date on some of the older content that we’ve been missing for a while now. For example, Uncharted and Warhawk and the update to the Resident Evil 5 space.” A new Production Assistant is due to start at some point soon, after which improvements will become more evident. None of this will affect the US Home team, who will continue to work independently of SCEE for ever and ever. Probably.

Finally, in terms of communicating with you, the fans, Ted wants to do away with the last-minute announcements that we’ve been seeing the last few months. Instead, the SCEE Home team will attempt to announce new content a week in advance. For more details check out TedTheDog’s forum post for yourself.

White Knight Chronicles trailer chronicles opening cinematics

Published by admin under Playstattion News

Do you like your RPG trailers with an extra helping of drama and guy-trying-to-sound-like-the-movie-announcer-guy? We hope you said “yes,” because the latest official video of SCEA’s White Knight Chronicles is pretty bombastic. It’s also just plain pretty. The footage is pieced together from in-game visuals, as we saw when playing WKC for our recent hands-on. We even battled as the giant mech White Knight itself, which looks like it could have leapt right out of RahXephon. So, after watching the trailer, what do you think — is Level 5 doing the PS3 justice?

White DualShock 3 already in the US: Photo says yes, Sony says no

Published by admin under Playstattion News

We first saw evidence that Sony might be planning to expand the selection of DualShock 3 colors in the US last month, when retailer GameStop listed a silver version of the controller for release on June 24. Now we have a photo, via a tipster, of what’s purportedly a US model of the white DualShock 3 already available in Japan — purchased at a Wal-Mart in Florida. Henry, who sent in the photo, says it was the only one left at the store where he bought it. He also included additional pics showing the rest of the seemingly North American packaging, complete with bilingual English / French adorning the front and back.

Naturally, we got in touch with Sony to ask about this find … and were told it doesn’t exist. Specifically, when we inquired whether this was some sort of “stealth” release, an SCEA hardware PR rep told us, “We have no plans to release a white Dualshock 3.” No plans? Did someone not get the memo, or, as our tipster suggests, accidentally ship out something that’s not due to be announced until E3?

This is where you come in. If you spot a white, official first-party DualShock 3 in US packaging, send us a photo along with info on when and where you saw it. Better yet, if you find and buy one, send us a photo of the receipt, too. You know how to reach us.

[Thanks, Henry!]

Critter Crunch coming to the PSN this summer

Published by admin under Playstattion News

A new challenger approaches the PSN store. New developer Capy has announced that its iPhone game, Critter Crunch, will be remade for the PlayStation Network. The game features a “food chain” puzzle mechanic, “which is all about feeding critters into each other until they burst.” The adorable art style will be remade in 1080p and the game will feature trophies as well as versus and co-op multiplayer — both online and offline.

Check out the video after the break to see the game in action, as well as more from the two critters you see above. Too cute.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift Game Update and Free DLC

Published by admin under Playstattion News

Hey all you, Motorstormers!

Hope you’re having fun ripping it up in the jungle on Pacific Rift because starting this Thursday, May 14th, we’ll be sending a downloadable vehicle livery pack your way every week for the next eight weeks exclusively via PlayStation Store. Each pack features new paint jobs for three vehicles, and the full set will give MotorStorm: Pacific Rift players a cutting-edge new look for every single vehicle class in the game: Mudpluggers, Quad Bikes, Monster Trucks, Rally Cars and more. Each new livery has been designed by one of Evolution’s top studio artists and the result is a collection of some of the craziest and out-there vehicle sprays ever seen in a racing game!

And to top it off, all these liveries are FREE!

Additionally, Game Update #2 was just released, and provides a number of useful fixes and updates for MotorStorm Pacific Rift. These include:

  • Sugar Rush short-cut removed – The short-cut to the left of the “keep right” arrows going into the sugar field was not intentionally included and has been removed
  • Sugar Rush respawn point fixed – Crashing at a certain point on the track no longer respawns the vehicle in a generous position
  • Inclusion of Microbadges

Actually, wanted to focus on these new Microbadges as these are very cool ways of giving each player a distinct identity when online in MotorStorm Pacific Rift. Microbadges are in-game displayable ‘medals’ which let you flaunt your proudest personal accomplishments and your off-road racing prowess to every other racer online.

MotorStorm Pacific Rift - Microbadges MotorStorm Pacific Rift - Microbadges

Microbadges go beyond the usual Trophies that MotorStorm Pacific Rift already awards; the idea is that they should be dedicated to things you’d want other players to know about while you’re racing online. Here are some examples:

  • Gold Festival – Completed Pacific Rift Festival with all Gold medals
  • Immortal – Win an Online Ranked race without wrecking
  • Flame and Fortune – 20 Boost explosion wins
  • Time Attack Master – Record an impressive Time Attack time on any Leaderboard
  • Supreme Victor – Win any Online or Offline race by a margin of 15 seconds

Microbadges are displayed beneath each Online ID, and players can display up to three badges from the get-go. Three more badge slots (there are six slots total) can be earned by working up the online ranks, and players can unlock 40 microbadges total. Players can choose which badges to show off and highlight what they’ve achieved in the game. Microbadges will also provide retroactive credit, so if you’ve already put in the hours, you’ll be reaping the rewards.

MotorStorm Pacific Rift - ATV

Last but not least, we wanted to give you a heads up on the photo contest we highlighted earlier.

Well we have finally gotten our winners, and they will be officially announced later this week on the official MotorStorm VIP site: vip.motorstorm.com. Keep an eye out to see if you are one of the lucky winners!

inFAMOUS - Your Questions Answered (#2)

Published by admin under Playstattion News

Clearly, you’re excited about inFAMOUS. The reaction to yesterday’s Sucker Punch Q&A has been quite good, and there’s more where that came from. In today’s interview, Sucker Punch co-founder and Development Director Chris Zimmerman talks game length, amount of missions, and why you should bother to explore the living city they’ve created.

If, even after two days of Q&As, you *still* have questions about inFAMOUS… that’s OK. We’re working on setting up a time for the devs at Sucker Punch to join us for a live chat. Stay tuned for details.

Critter Crunch! PlayStation Network! Barf!

Published by admin under Playstattion News

Hello, new best friends!

This is Kris. I’m the creative director at Capy, which means I’m by-far the coolest guy at the studio. And Capy is pretty cool, so that’s not just talk. Anyway, who is Capy, right? Well, Capy is an indie studio from the sometimes frozen, other times disgustingly humid Canadian wonderland known as Toronto.

So, um, check this trailer…but only if you’re down with technicolor barf!

Boing! That was me announcing Critter Crunch for PlayStation Network!

Everyone at Capy has been working super-hard creating this crazy little arcade-puzzler (and filling it with humongous doses of love) so we’re very excited to finally announce its existence. Critter Crunch is fueled by an original and award-winning “food chain” puzzle mechanic, which is all about feeding critters into each other until they burst. It’s exactly as cute as it is horrible and sad, just like nature itself!

The game features a bunch of single player modes like adventure & puzzle, as well as online and local multiplayer in versus & co-op flavors, with a plethora of fancy trophies to collect. It also has lots of really pretty 1080p art that should make your HDTV happy.

I hope you like it!

CritterCrunch Single- Player Screen1

If you have any questions, fire away in the comments below and I’ll do my best to answer them…and check back for more PlayStation.Blog updates soon!

-Kris
